New Guildford Community Lottery

New Guildford Community Lottery will give chances to support good causes and win prizes

The new Guildford Community Lottery, approved at last month’s Executive meeting, will help raise additional funding for good causes across the borough while providing an opportunity for players to win weekly prizes of up to a possible £25,000.

Lottery tickets will cost £1 each and the player can choose which good cause they want to support. They will have the option of wholly benefiting the Council’s nominated charity, Guildford Philanthropy, or a local group of their choice with a small percentage going to Guildford Philanthropy.

Leader of the Council, Cllr Paul Spooner, said: “Now Guildford’s Community Lottery has been approved it will take around six months to set up and launch to the public. We believe that every person matters and this is a great way to help a wide range of good causes raise extra funding for their valuable work.  I look forward to talking to many local organisations to find out how we might support them through this new initiative.”

The Council will not receive any funding from the scheme and is asking for local charities, sports clubs and voluntary groups to come forward and register an interest in being involved.

Cllr Spooner added: “Nearly 50 councils have already got a lottery or are in the process of launching lotteries and we have appointed Gatherwell Ltd to set up and operate our scheme. Community is very important to us and I encourage everyone to look out for more details about how they can help local people and win at the same time.”
